Introduction:

An integral part of the potable water treatment process are the slow sand filters, many of the treatment facilities across the UK use this method of water treatment, maintenance of these filters is essential to ensure water keeps flowing to its customers. The filters use gravity to pass water through a filtration process at the intermediate stage of the treatment.

Overview

As a trusted service partner, ALD has been tasked to carry out a floor refurbishment program at several treatment facilities across east Anglia, this includes the following tasks:

1. Removal of the separate layers of filter media and stockpiling for re-use

2. Demolition and removal of the deteriorating porous concrete floors

3. Deep cleaning of the concrete sub-structures and central channels

4. CCTV drain surveying

5. Repairs to the concrete sub-structures

6. Re-laying the new porous concrete floor blocks

7. Onsite mobile stone washing & separating into 10mm & 20mm sizing

8. 20mm stone layer replacement

9. 10mm stone layer placement

10. Lower sand placement

11. Carbon layer placement

12. Completed with a final layer of media sand
